IFMSA Brazil is pleased to share this material developed by the National Executive Board, for our 157 local committees and 7000 members of our NMO. The document is called “Equity Dialogues in the COVID-19 Pandemic”, and it aimed to discuss the impact of Coronavirus on 4 neglected populations: people deprived of their freedom, indigenous peoples, homeless people and slum dwellers. In addition, we provided guidance to our members on how to promote projects and campaigns focused on these populations during the lockdown

Even in these social distancing times, which most of us are safe at home and surrounded by privileges, it is our social duty to act on behalf of people who are immersed in some context of vulnerability. Thus, IFMSA Brazil considered essential to write this material in Portuguese – and translate it for the international community – through the efforts of the National Directors and their National Teams, including NORP, NPO, NOME, Publications and Research Director, Programs and Activities Director and the National Program Coordinators, specially the one responsible for Non-Discriminatory Access to Health. This being said, we are proud to share with everyone this great collaborative IFMSA Brazil initiative against COVID-19.
Furthermore, we would like to thank the Liaison Officer for Human Rights and Peace, Tammy Yu, for the incredible webinar with Ms. Michelle Bachelet and for the opportunity that IFMSA Brazil had of hearing this UN high commissioner clarify an important question we did about our country.
Last but not least, on behalf of all our NMO we wanted to spread some positiveness and motivate IFMSA members. This pandemic changed our modus operandi, but every single effort has its importance to make the difference in the world. Bear in mind what Mother Teresa used to say: we ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean, but if that drop were not there, the ocean would be less by that missing drop.
