As you know, one of our Regional Priorities for the term 2019/2020 is Health Workforce. According to the European Commission, with no effective measures, there will be a potential shortfall of around 1 million healthcare workers in the EU by 2020. Evidently, these insufficiencies in the health workforce cannot be solved by scaling up the numbers without securing the quality of our health workers. Therefore, our Health Workforce future shortage demands a coordinated approach that tackles “the right number of health professionals, with the right skills, in the right place” and one of the key aspects is without a doubt the quality of the medical education system.
